MSI InsightII
Latest Installed Version : 980
Insight II is used by students and researchers to construct graphical three-dimensional models of molecules and other structures. FELIX is used for processing and display of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance data. The InsightII and FELIX software was previously produced by a company named BioSym. It is now developed by MSI, but you may occasionally hear the software referred to as Biosym.
Note that use of InsightII at ND has been depreciated and many previously available modules are no longer licensed by Notre Dame. Current only the following modules are licensed:
- Biopolymer
- Discover
- Felix Assign
- NMR Refine/Advanced
- NMR Refine/DG-II
Invoking
InsightII is part of the msi module. This module is not loaded by default, so it is necessary to use the module load command to load it prior to invoking InsightII.
To start InsightII:
- Type module load msi to load the msi software module that contains InsightII.
- Type insightII in a command line to start InsightII.
- The -opengl flag can be used to start insight using openGL 3D rendering. This will result in improved graphics performance on newer SGI workstations (O2, Octane, and Onyx2).
Getting Help
- Online manuals are available via the web. (only on ND unix workstations)
- Molecular Simulations has a large corporate web site.
Installation
MSI InsightII is available from Notre Dame AFS space in the msi module. This module must be loaded by the user with the module load command.
